Overnight flight to Shanghai.
Days 2 & 3 Shanghai
Arrive in Shanghai and transfer to our hotel. This is China’s most cosmopolitan city, known as the ‘Paris of the Orient’. Our sightseeing includes Yu Yuan Gardens, Jade Buddha Temple, the famous Bund waterfront and the Children’s Palace.
Days 4 – 6 Beijing
Morning flight to the magnificent capital city of Beijing. Our stay includes a tour of the Ming Tombs and the stunning Great Wall. We visit the imposing Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Kunming Lake and Tiananmen Square. The Temple of Heaven, a remarkable masterpiece of 15th century Chinese architecture, is also
included, plus a rickshaw ride in the old town and a visit to a colourful local food market.
Days 7 & 8 Xi’an
Morning flight to Xi’an, for a full day tour to the astonishing burial site of Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi and its amazing army of 8,000 life-size terracotta warriors. We also visit the Grand Mosque, Huaqing Hot Springs, Big Wild Goose
Pagoda, City Wall and Museum of History.
Day 9 Chengdu
Fly to Chengdu for an orientation tour, including the Riverside Pavillion and a tea house at Wenshu Temple. After a typical Szechuan meal we spend the night in Chengdu.
Days 10 & 11 Wolong Panda Experience
Drive along the beautiful Ming Valley to the Wolong Panda Museum where we can learn all about these beautiful mammals. There is also a short walk in the Yichang Valley before staying overnight in Wolong. The next morning, visit the
Wolong Nature Reserve, the largest Giant Panda reserve in the world, for closer observation as they munch on bamboo, their favourite food. Sometimes it is even possible to cuddle one of the babies. Depart for Chengdu airport and fly to
Shanghai for the night. Those doing the Yangtse extension spend tonight in Chengdu.
Day 12 Shanghai – Australia
Transfer to the airport for our return flight, arriving London the same day.
NB: A reasonable level of fitness/mobility is required as we include plenty of sightseeing/travelling; sometimes with early starts.
