MOROCCO – Morocco Desert Safari
EX LONDON PRICE
Our journey by 4x4’s takes us on and off road, to access the wilder parts of Morocco. On the edge of the Sahara Desert, we visit bubbling Marrakech and the great Kasbahs of the Atlas Mountains.

Day 1 London or Manchester – Agadir
Fly to Agadir and transfer to our hotel.

Day 2 Ouarzazate
Taking to our 4x4 vehicles we head to Taroudant, which was once the capital of the Saadian dynasty. Almost the whole city is contained within city walls, and we’ll explore the ramparts and the medina before setting off to Taliouine for lunch. Then, onward to Ouarzazate.

Day 3 Zagora
Today our on-road journey follows the Draa Valley. We stop at the Draa Oasis (where a large sign informs us that it is 52 days by camel to Timbuktou!) and also visit Tamegrout, where there are Koranic scrolls dating from the 12th century written on parchment. We continue to our hotel in the town of Zagora.

Day 4 Erfoud
Leaving Zagora behind we take to the wild side again and head off road to Tazzarine. Stop in Alnif for lunch on our way to Erfoud and then head out into the vast desert and to the foot of the massive dunes of Merzouga (the biggest dunes in the Sahara). Here, an optional camel ride and a night under the stars in a Bedouin tent is available, before returning to our hotel in Erfoud.

Day 5 Ouarzazate
From Erfoud we pass through an almost lunar landscape on the way to the Todra Gorges. Take lunch in the shade of the cliffs and have time for a short walk before taking the ‘Road of a thousand Kasbahs’ back to Ouarzazate.

Days 6 & 7 Marrakech
Leaving Ouarzazate we drive to the village of Ait Ben Haddou and visit this splendid Kasbah (which has appeared in numerous films) before continuing to Telouet. Here, visit the stunning Glaoui Kasbah, one of the most striking sights in all of the Atlas Mountains, formerly the headquarters of one of the great Berber leaders of the last century and only abandoned in the last 50 years. Later we journey to Marrakech via the Tiz’n Tichka pass (2260m), with many magnificent views to be enjoyed.

The next day enjoy included sightseeing of the main historical sights of Marrakech by caleche (horse drawn carriage). We also include a walking tour of the Souks and the main square with its performers, snake charmers, story tellers and sooth sayers. The afternoon is at leisure before a Moroccan folklore dinner, just in case we haven’t quite got a flavour of this marvellous country yet!

Day 8 Agadir – London or Manchester
Transfer to Agadir for our return flight, arriving London the same day.

NB: A reasonable level of fitness/mobility is required as we include plenty of sightseeing/travelling; sometimes with early starts and occasionally at high altitudes (max. 2260m).
